Igor Kovalchuk, MD, PhD
Igor Kovalchuk is a Professor and Board of Governors Research Chair in Epigenetics at the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA). He is an expert in epigenetics, genome stability, DNA repair, genetic engineering and next generation sequencing applications. Igor has obtained his MD in 1996 from Ivano-Frankivsk State Medical Academy (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine), with specialization in obstetrics and gynecology. He has carried out his PhD work at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research and at the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of Hygiene and Genetics (Kiev, Ukraine) and has defended his thesis “Role of p70 S6 kinase in oncogenic transformation” in 1998. He has obtained his postdoctoral training (1998-2001) at the Genome Flux laboratory at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research under the supervision of Prof. Barbara Hohn. Since 2001, Dr. Igor Kovalchuk leads his own research group, working in various areas of epigenetics and genetic engineering. He has published well over 100 peer-reviewed articles (including those in Nature, Nature Biotechnology and EMBO J.) http://www.ccarl.ca/publications/, several books (including a text-book “Epigenetics of health and disease”) and book chapters and has filed and obtained 8 patents.
Andrey Golubov, PhD
Andrey Golubov has been working in the field of molecular biology for more than 15 years. His area of expertise includes molecular biology of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, epigenetics, and next generation sequencing/microarray. Andrey has his PhD from the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU), Munich, Germany, were he was studying genomic differences and pathogenicity of various Yersinia species. For the past 4 years, Andrey has been developing various NGS applications using Illumina platform and has completed over 30 project of various size and complexity, from gene expression analysis using microarrays to DNA methylation analysis ChIP-seq and de novo genome sequencing using Genome Analyzer IIx.
